Guelph friends and musical collaborators Thomas Hammerton and Nick Zubeck have teamed up to compose a modern Holiday classic. Told from the perspective of a young child pondering the potential implications of climate change as Christmas draws near, the message is poignant and clear: we all need to help. Calling on friends to bring the project to life, they enlisted 7 year old Delmont Wall to sing, musical wizard Drew Jurecka to arrange and perform the strings, and producer Sandro Perri to mix and master. Filmmaker Dustin Seabrook captured the cozy yuletide setting to create the inviting video, while Sarah Hammerton puppeteered our narrator musing in front of a crackling fireplace and Christmas tree. All profits from the song will go to the Wet’suwet’en legal defense fund, who are defending their unceded territory (Yintah) from Coastal GasLink’s (CGL) liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline. The Dinï ze’ and Ts’akë ze’ (Chiefs) wholeheartedly oppose the CGL project, which would turn pristine forests and salmon streams into a fossil fuel corridor. All donations will recieve a digital copy of “If You’re Listening.”
